14th Annual Fall Planting at Pershing Field

Pershing Field Garden Friends (PFGF) successfully completed its fourteenth Annual Fall Planting at Pershing Field on October 29, 2016. This beautification project was made possible in part through a place-making grant sponsored by the Liberty Board of Realtors through the New Jersey Association of Realtors.

We would like to thank all those who participated in this most worthwhile project. Along with our PFGF community volunteers, we were joined this year by a team of Jersey City North District police officers headed by Community Relations Officer Melissa Sarmiento. 1000 flowering bulbs were planted at the new trees on Manhattan Ave bordering Pershing Field as well as in the new planting beds at the Summit Ave side of the park.

We appreciate local merchants, Stop and Shop, Dulce de Leche and Pizza Masters for donating refreshments and lunch. Thanks to Sammy Ocasio, Acting Director of Jersey City Parks and Forestry for his support and cooperation. As always, Pershing Field employee John Montalvo worked with us throughout the day to make everything run smoothly.

Pershing Field Garden Friends (PFGF) is a non-profit organization. Our goal is to beautify our neighborhood and contribute to the well being of our community through gardening. We acknowledge that the beautification of our parks and public spaces dramatically impacts our quality of life, improves the well being of citizens and spawns neighborhood revitalization.
