Summer Wind – Solstice Series Success

Pershing Field Garden Friends™ (PFGF) celebrated the first weekend of summer on Friday, June 21st at 942 Summit Ave for its Fundraiser, Summer Wind: an evening of poetry, prose and song to benefit the gardens at Pershing Field. The cool and inviting venue and tasty treats were provided by Kelley & Ryan of Do You Tea? Stephanie, of WHOS Gluten Free Bakery and Niambi of Bloomsbury Square.

Summer Wind supporters and performers at 942 Summit in Jersey City HeightsThe second in our Solstice Series was again emceed by PFGF™’s very own Mauro Altamura. Great job, Mauro!! Jersey City Jama pop-up band of three friends who met through music in Jersey City started off our evening highlighted with a passionate rendition of Edith Piaf’s “La Vie en rose,” sung by Jackie Ross. She was accompanied by Jerome Bongiorno on guitar and Bart Erbach on Bass. A special thanks to Bart for not only participating but for inviting our closing act, the Anabel Trio featuring three local college students performing their original, soulful creations. The incomparable Anastasia Beliakova wowed the crowd on vocals while Marc Velez accompanied on Guitar and Dan Aleman played Sax, and Clarinet.  Madhuri Blaylock, Kevin Singer and Meg Merriet shared their prose, introducing us to magicals, the supernatural and fictional worlds of mad science.  Thanks to Susan Newman from Susan Newman Design Inc. for creating our promotional materials and to Laura Akscin Foord of Heights House Concerts who was instrumental (no pun intended) in connecting us to the rich musical talent right here in our neighborhood. Most importantly, we thank our community for their unwavering support.

The third of our Solstice Series, Falling Leaves, will be held on Friday, September 25th, 2015. If you are a writer, poet or musician and would like to participate please email pfgf2004@gmail.com or call 201-259-1800.
